How I became Cellist
My brown flute was not good enough for my new teacher. I disliked the strict woman from the beginning since she had teeth like a horse, with which she bit her flute rather than blowing on it. She pointedly told me during the second lesson: “you must buy a new flute like the other children here. You need a white one from the Moeck Company. I’ll bring the new flute for you in the next lesson.” Despite my tender age of 6 years, I was quite obstinate, and asked “Why? My flute is very new! I don’t want another one.” The teacher replied, “if you don’t buy yourself a new flute, there is not much sense in your continuing to play here.
